Fall of 2004 Ben was lucky enough to find an amazing person and convinced her to marry him before the year was over. Or maybe it was the other way around....Amanda was lucky to find the man of her dreams and convinced him to marry her before the year was over. It all depends on who you ask! Since it's me, Amanda, writing this we'll go with the former :)
I had heard so many wonderful things about Armando and the pig farm that I wanted to go down and see what it was all about! Summer 2005 Ben and I hopped on a plane and headed over. The main purpose of the trip was to oversee an addition to the building that housed the pigs, purchase another property to expand the farm, and to have the well dug for the new property. The well digging was an interesting experience. It's a painfully long process and the guys that came out to dig it tried about 15 times to get it dug. They have a pipe with handles that they drop and then turn, drop and then turn repeatedly to dig the well. Usually they go down about 15 meters which is about 45 feet. They kept hitting rock and ended up not being able to dig the well for us. We had to hire a company with a drill to come out to dig the well. They had to drill through rock about 300 feet to hit the water table there. It ended up being a blessing since during times of drought, we have water when no one else does.
Here are a few pictures of the pigs and the pig farm from that trip.

Piglets!
This is the original property. At this time we were extending the large building in the back.
The addition under construction
More piglets!
The property we purchased to expand the pig farm even more. This is where Armando and his family live and where our feed is produced now.
